Never, never, never, ever use soap of any kind on a griddle. You will taste it forever. There is a process for using just water for cleaning heavy build up, but for the most part, just keeping it scraped clean and well seasoned after each use will work just fine for back yard grillers. Be sure to bring it up to temp with fresh oil before each use.

Hi Daniel! Thank you for your comment! While I was researching for this article, I went to the source - Blackstone. Their recommendation is to wash your griddle with mild dish soap and water, especially when you are seasoning it for the first time. However, I totally understand not wanting to taste soap in your food! If you are able to keep your griddle clean and seasoned without the use of soap, more power to you! I, myself, don't use dish soap between cooks unless there is something super stubborn that won't come off. I've never tasted soap in my food, though, even after using it on the griddle.
