After all the holiday meals, treats, and alcohol, it's time to give yourself (and your body) a break! Just because most people seek healthier food options and non-alcoholic drinks doesn't mean "Dry January" has to be a drag. My hot honey mojito mocktail recipe features all of the crisp, refreshing flavors of a mojito, but without alcohol! Further, it will keep you warm this January because it contains a sweet and spicy jalapeño kick! You won't even miss the booze.

    Trendgredient Alert: Hot Honey

There is a new food trend in 2021 that is sweeping the blogosphere: hot honey. Sweet and spicy is the new way to go when it comes to glazes, barbeque sauces, and even beverages!

Hot honey is super versatile - you can drizzle it on a biscuit, slather fried chicken with it, and even pour some into your hot tea to warm you up in the winter!

Here is a list of some amazing recipes using hot honey I have found:

    • Hot Honey Hot Toddy
    • Hot Honey Sweet Potatoes
    • Hot Honey Salmon
    • Corn Fritters With Whipped Hot Honey Butter

Hot honey can come in many different flavors - this mocktail recipe has a jalapeño hot honey simple syrup. I am also working on perfecting my crispy Air Fryer Hot Honey Chicken Wing recipe, which is made with a smoky chipotle hot honey glaze. Watch this space!

What Are The Ingredients For A Mojito?

Hailing from Havana, Cuba, a classic mojito is made from mint, sugar , lime juice, soda water, and white rum.

My mojito mocktail (or "nojito") recipe contains no alcohol. The amazing thing is that the spice from the jalapeño actually makes you feel warm, as if the drink actually contains alcohol. And the added bonus: no hangover!

If you choose to add alcohol to make it a mojito cocktail, all you have to do is add 1 ounce of white rum to your glass. If you are looking for a more complex flavor, you could add dark or spiced rum instead of white rum.

What Is The Purpose Of Dry January?

Started in the UK in 2013, Dry January is no longer just for our friends across the pond! Dry January is a pledge to remain alcohol-free for the whole month of January.

Dry January essentially has begun a worldwide conversation and awareness of alcohol consumption. Most of us tend to overindulge throughout the holiday season, which is why interest in health food and gym memberships skyrocket. However, we don't always take alcohol consumption under consideration.

Dry January is a wonderful way to take a look at your own personal consumption of alcohol and how it affects your daily life. For more information on Dry January, visit the website of Alcohol Change UK.

My essential tools when making this mojito mocktail recipe include the following. Please note: classic mojitos are typically served in a high ball glass. I prefer to drink mine in a rocks glass. Either will work!

    Ingredients

For The Hot Honey Simple Syrup

    • 1 cup honey
    • ½ cup water
    • 1-2 jalapeños sliced (seeds removed if you want a milder drink)

For The Hot Honey Mojito Mocktail

    • prepared Hot Honey Simple Syrup
    • 1 large bunch fresh mint
    • 4 limes juiced
    • 33 oz. bottle of club soda

    Instructions

To Make The Hot Honey Simple Syrup

    • In a small saucepan, combine honey, water, and jalapeños. (To make this mixture more mild, remove seeds).
    • Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.
    • Turn the heat off and steep the mixture for 5 minutes.
    • Strain hot honey mixture using a fine mesh strainer. Set aside.

To Make The Hot Honey Mojito Mocktails (Individually)

    • In a rocks glass, muddle 5-6 mint leaves (this will extract oils from the mint that will flavor your drink).
    • Fill the glass with ice. (I like a lot of ice.)
    • Pour 1.5 ounces of hot honey simple syrup into the glass. You may increase or reduce the amount of simple syrup based on how spicy you want it.
    • Pour 1 ounce of lime juice into the glass.
    • Fill the glass the rest of the way with club soda (about 3 ounces). Garnish with mint and sliced jalapeños and enjoy!
